Exploring Table Bay and the Northern SuburbsTable Bay region is one of the premier destinations in the Western Cape for outdoor activity. If water sports are the name of the game, the beaches and waters near Sunset Beach and Table View provide a fabulous playground for sand boarding, kite surfing, jet-skiing, sea kayaking and many other water sport activities. And for the kids Ratanga Junction Theme Park is a must. It is THE premier amusement park in South Africa. It is conveniently located just off the N1 highway beside Century City. The Rietvlei Nature Reserve near Table View provides a wonderfully relaxing escape into this beautiful coastal wetlands sanctuary. There are plenty of bird hides and hiking trails throughout the park, where bird watchers can spot pelicans, flamingos and dozens of other birdlife found in this wildlife reserve. Just a little further up the coast is the Koeberg Nature Reserve covering more than 3000 hectares, this nature reserve has a wide variety fauna and flora and excellent hiking trails. This nature reserve is especially popular for bird watching. And for military buffs the South African Air Force Museum at the Ysterplaat Airbase, offers an interesting collection of aircraft, uniforms, and a history of South African aviation. And for something completely different, why not try a tour of the the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station Table View and Sunset Beach are also fast becoming a major night-life hotspot, with plenty of restaurants, bars and clubs to keep you dancing all night long. Table View, Bloubergstrand, Bloubergrant, and Melkbosstrand are all ideally located with most accommodation with walking distance of the beach. Further inland you'll find plenty of comfortable and relaxing accommodation in the Durbanville and Belleville areas, which are ideally situated halfway between the hustle and bustle of the city and the beautiful wine farms the Cape is so well known for. |
