Kommetjie
Tourist Information:
Kommetjie, meaning 'little bowl', derives its name from a natural pool which has been closed off by a low concrete wall.

Major Attractions:
Masiphumelele Village: Meaning 'We must succeed', Masiphumelele lies on the main road to Kommetjie. Traditional Xhosa crafts, arts and other memorabilia are on sale at weekends. Tel 387 5351.

The Great Outdoors:
Beaches: Gravel walkways along the coastline allow access to picnic spots and the rocks below. To the north, there are barbecue (braai) sites and a channel suitable for launching boats. The southerly end of the beach is favoured by surfers. The kelp beds off the lighthouse at Slangkoppunt offer good crayfishing.

Long Beach: Includes Bokramstrand and Klein Slangkoppunt. A favourite spot for surfing, wind- surfing, paddleskiing and crayfishing and a popular venue for surfing competitions. The surf is powerful with lifeguards in season. From the four-way-stop intersection between Noordhoek and Fish Hoek, follow the road to Kommetjie and turn right into Surf Way, just before the village.

Nature Park & Wildlife Sanctuary: Ocean View. African Crane Breeding Centre and Giants of the Bird World along with many other birds and animals offer walks among the largest flightless birds in the world! Tel 790 2730.
